RFS blending targets for this year and next should be made public soon

Biofuel blending targets for 2021 and 2022 should be made public soon.

Renewable Fuels Association CEO Geoff Cooper tells Brownfield EPA has submitted Renewable Volume Obligations to the Office of Management and Budget for review.

“Typically it’s a three to four week process. We’ve heard that it should be a little quicker than that this time. They really are trying to get these proposals out to the public for comment.”

He suggests expediting the process would be appropriate considering EPA is about a year behind on the 2021 rule.

“These RVO rules should’ve been finalized in November of last year, so we should’ve had a 2021 RVO nearly a year ago.”

Cooper is aware of rumors that EPA plans to lower the 2021 RVO.  He says worse yet, there are also rumors the agency wants to retroactively reduce blending obligations for 2020.
