Grassley concerned about Biden’s lack of trade agenda

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley suggests the Biden administration has been slow on trade since taking office.

Speaking to ag reporters Thursday, the Iowa Republican raised several concerns.

“Tax hikes for family farmers, huge investments in electric vehicles and there isn’t anything in this program for biofuels. Then another concern is the lack of a trade agenda in this administration.”

He says eight months into Biden’s presidency, there has been no movement on free trade agreements.

“The President has not submitted names for the Chief Agriculture Negotiator for the Trade Representative’s Office. And there’s also a big vacancy in another important position in USDA, that of Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs.”

Grassley says every day that goes by without qualified leadership in these two posts puts the U.S. at a disadvantage against ag competitors.
