Princess Kay coronation happens on eve of Minnesota State Fair

The Minnesota State Fair returns beginning with the Princess Kay of the Milky Way coronation Wednesday evening.

Theresa Reps with Midwest Dairy says the judges will have a hard time choosing between the ten talented finalists.

“They’re looking for a candidate that can talk about dairy, that is knowledgeable about dairy farming, about dairy products, about the health and nutrition for dairy. They’re looking for someone that can connect easily with people because we’re going to have Princess Kay out and about all year.”

She tells Brownfield the new Princess Kay gets right to work on opening day of the fair.

“She’ll be at the front gates doing interviews along with some of the finalists, so we get her right to work with as many interviews as we can the first morning. Then she’ll get to hop into the Butter Booth at 9am.”

That’s when Princess Kay will be sculpted in butter.  Reps says it will be extra special this year because Linda Christensen is retiring from sculpting after 50 years.

The Minnesota State Fair runs August 26th through September 6th in St. Paul.
