TRAFFIC ALERT: Milling on Park Avenue begins, lane restrictions on Mulberry for Monday

Milling of Park Avenue and 2nd Street from the Mad Creek bridge to Washington Street will begin on Monday (Aug. 23), and drivers can expect traffic delays as the work progresses throughout next week.

Drivers are urged to find alternate routes of travel while the milling and asphalt overlay process is conducted. Manatt’s, the prime contractor for the Park Avenue 4-to-3 Lane Conversion Project, will have flaggers on site to direct traffic, but drivers can expect long delays due to the truck traffic.

Manatt’s will begin milling the center lanes at the Mad Creek bridge Monday morning and continue up to the Washington intersection. The milling will continue with the outside lanes. Once completed, this section will receive an asphalt overlay Wednesday and Thursday.

The contractor will then begin milling and putting down an asphalt overlay on the section from Washington Street to just south of Harrison Street past the Colorado/Clay intersection. Again, drivers will be urged to find alternate routes due to the congestion with construction traffic.

LANE RESTRICTIONS ON MULBERRY AUGUST 23
The southbound lane of Mulberry Avenue at the intersection with Wier Street will be closed to traffic on Monday, August 23, for the replacement of the Outdoor Warning Siren at that location. The lane closure will be posted and drivers should alternate moving through the work area. Find alternate routes if possible and keep workers safe.

STREETSCAPE PROJECT WRAPPING UP IN 100 BLOCK OF WEST 2ND STREET
Full depth patching in the 100 block of West 2nd Street has been completed with contractor KE Flatwork, Inc., finishing up sidewalk work August 23-27 on the north and south sides of the block.

One block and one intersection remain in the 2nd Streetscape Project that is tentatively scheduled to complete its two-year contract on October 1, 2021. Next up will be the Chestnut and 2nd Street intersection that will be completely removed and replaced starting on August 30. The intersection will be closed to traffic for approximately two weeks.

The 200 block of West 2nd Street (Chestnut to Pine) and work in the parking lot at the Pine Street intersection will follow the opening of the intersection.

FIRST PHASE OF GRANDVIEW AVENUE RECONSTRUCTION MAKING PROGRESS
Despite delays in receiving needed materials, prime contractor Heuer Construction, Inc., is making significant progress in the first phase of the Grandview Avenue Reconstruction Project. Most underground work has been completed from Pearl to White and preparation is underway for paving.

Heuer Construction, Inc., is anticipating paving the Oregon/Warren intersection once prep work has been completed next week, and opening the intersection to traffic in two- to three-weeks. Work will then continue on prepping and paving two lanes of traffic on Grandview Avenue from Pearl to White, and then two lanes of traffic from White to Musser. The final lanes of traffic will be completed once the two lanes are open.

GROUNDWATER CONTINUES TO PLAGUE WORK ON WEST HILL PHASE 5A
While underground work through the property at 891 West 8th Street has been hampered by high groundwater levels, prime contractor Hagerty Earthworks, Inc., has been able to complete underground work on West 8th from the 891 property to Climer. That section is now being prepped for paving next week. Work on sewer separation on West 8th from the 891 property to Lucas will begin once the first section is open to traffic.
