MO Farmers Care state fair food drive sets new record

Missouri Farmers Care’s Food Drive at the Missouri State Fair packed around 200,000 meals for food insecure Missourians Tuesday.

Missouri Farmers Care Executive Director Ashley McCarty says the meals aren’t the only positive from the effort.

“This is also an awareness building effort that we talk to everybody so that we all know the need is there, it’s pervasive, it’s in every community in the state,” she said. “And so therefore it’s incumbent upon all of us to do the best that we can do for a bright future for a bright future for our kids and our communities.”

McCarty tells Brownfield the food drive is just part of the group’s Drive to Feed Kids program…

“Our larger goal is 1.2 million meals that the Drive to Feed Kids will raise resources for through our network of food banks through feeding Missouri to ensure that our neighbors, classmates and communities members have a brighter tomorrow,” McCarty said.

She said this year’s number of meals packed about doubled its previous record. The meals will be sent to five food banks across the state.
