Director Costello: “Illinois Ag has a lot to celebrate”

It is Agriculture Day at the Illinois State Fair and Director of Agriculture Jerry Costello tells Brownfield Illinois agriculture has a lot to celebrate.

“It is a pretty good time to be a farmer in the state of Illinois. We are number one in soybean production, number two in corn, number four in pork. We are number one in horseradish production and pumpkin production. We are an incredible ag state and just proud to keep the tradition alive.”

Ag day ceremonies also recognize farmers like Cimeron Frost of Tallula whose family is receiving the Illinois Beef Association Farm Family of the Year award.

“I was on the original advisory committee that created the beef expo and happened to be the guy to manage it for 28 years. I am very proud of my kids for being involved in the industry. I was tickled to death and surprised to receive the award. I really enjoy it.”

Agriculture Day will wrap up this evening with the Governor’s Sale of Champions in the Coliseum.
