Wisconsin sees first 2021 Equine Encephalitis case

Wisconsin has its first case of Equine Encephalitis for 2021.  Ag Department officials confirm the infected horse was an unvaccinated 2-year-old crossbred gelding from Monroe County, and the horse was euthanized after showing symptoms of the disease.

Department of Ag officials strongly encourage Horse owners to vaccinate their horses against Equine Encephalitis and West Nile virus, which are both transmitted by mosquitoes.
