UN report predicts worsening ag droughts and heavy rains

Worsening drought and other extreme weather conditions are predicted in the latest U.N. climate report released Monday with the window to mitigate the changes narrowing.

Without aggressive, large-scale and immediate action to limit the release of greenhouse gases, the report says, agricultural droughts will continue to increase, especially in the western parts of North America. It predicts heavy precipitation in the central part of the continent which encompasses the bulk of U.S. agriculture – as well as eastern North America. Higher temperature extremes are predicted across the world.
