Dairy exports could see another record year

The U.S. Dairy Export Council says dairy products are on pace for a record export year.

Shipments in June were up six percent on the year and were valued at $670 million, up 15 percent.

Whey exports lead product categories higher, with a 16 percent increase in demand from China. Nonfat/dry milk skim milk powder exports were up seven percent as buying from Mexico strengthened. Cheese exports declined by 13 percent.

Despite port issues, nonfat/dry milk skim milk powder shipments to Southeast Asia were up one percent for the first six months of the year.  That category is up 25 percent for the year to Mexico and ahead of the 2019 pace.

Total whey exports are up 16 percent on the month and 24 percent for the first half of the year over 2020, on pace for another record year.

The Export Council expects shipping delays to continue to limit export potential through the end of the year.
