House Ag Committee member expects a new look farm bill

A House Ag Committee member expects some significant changes in the next farm bill.

Iowa Republican Randy Feenstra tells Brownfield an emerging focus on climate will shape the legislation.

“When you talk about clean forms of voluntary reduction of carbon and things like that, obviously this has been talked about a lot. So there’s going to be a lot of discussion about what that looks like.”

But he does not expect major crop safety net reform.

“Talking about multi-peril, talking about crop insurance, I think we know that is successful (and) we want to make sure we keep that in the private sector and that we don’t have government takeover of that.”

Feenstra says his goal is to make sure the next farm bill does not hinder farmers from doing their job.
