Rains boost Iowa crop condition ratings

Much needed rainfall helped boost crop conditions in Iowa last week.

The latest crop report from USDA says corn improved slightly to 66 percent good to excellent, with more than 20 percent silking.

Soybeans considered good to excellent climbed to 65 percent, and the crop is about five days ahead of normal with 56 percent blooming and 15 percent setting pods.

Oats headed or beyond reached 97 percent, with 72 percent turning color and 10 percent harvested for grain.

The second cutting of alfalfa his half done, and hay condition is 57 percent good to excellent.
