Illinois crops progressing on track, but conditions drop

Overall, Illinois crops are progressing well through weather variances across the state, but conditions dropped week over week.

The USDA reports as of Sunday half of the state’s corn crop is silking, up from 14% the week before and five percentage points ahead of the five-year average with 1% in the dough stage.

Nearly half of the soybean crop is blooming up from 22% the week before and compared to 29% on average. 6% of the crop began setting pods last week.

Corn is rated 60% good to excellent a drop of 5 percentage points on the week and soybeans are rated 56% good to excellent down 8 percentage points. Both are within 5 percentage points of their respective rating at this time last year.

Winter wheat harvest progressed to 95% complete and the second cutting of alfalfa hay is 79% complete.
