MO ag director: room for ag to expand in the state
A recent report through the state of Missouri says its agriculture industry is positioned to grow.
Missouri Ag Director Chris Chinn said a study focused on agriculture economic potential in the state shows opportunity for farmers.
“We could probably bring back about $25 billion dollars in additional value to Missouri agriculture,” she said. “We could add probably 70,000 jobs and contribute $3 billion in annual tax revenues.”
The Show Me Food Beverage and Forest Products Study, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe, points to areas the state can improve ag related profit potential.
“We have so many small businesses in the state of Missouri that are creating value agriculture by creating barbeque sauces or selling their meat sticks or whatever it might be, but their biggest challenge is distribution,” Chinn said.
She said the state is working to grow its ag food entrepreneur network to help small businesses grow. Chinn spoke at the Missouri Agribusiness Summer Meeting in Lake Ozark, Missouri Thursday.
