USDA NIFA awarding ag education grants
The USDA is investing more than six-Million-dollars in 21 professional development and secondary school teacher grants to help integrate food and ag science into classrooms.
The agency’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) has awarded Ohio State University $270-thousand dollars to incorporate agricultural examples to teach science, technology, engineering and math concepts in grades K through 12.
The University of Nebraska has been awarded a similar amount to help high school ag and science teachers increase their knowledge and ability to demonstrate how the basic sciences (biology, chemistry, and physics) are connected to the animal science industry and related career opportunities.
The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation has been awarded $300-thousand dollars to train secondary ag education instructors in how to best teach foundational skills like record keeping, personal finance, and ag business to be applied with students and their supervised agricultural experience (SAE) programs.
