Soil moisture an issue in parts of Arkansas

Producers in Arkansas had nearly an entire week open for fieldwork.

The USDA says precipitation was generally light to moderate, with most of that in northwestern areas, and most of the state does have adequate soil moisture levels, there are pockets that are short to very short.

Corn development is a little bit behind average, with 67% of the crop rated good to excellent, while soybean development is close to normal, but blooming and pod setting are both behind their respective normal paces, with 67% of that crop called good to excellent.

Cotton development is significantly slower than normal but most of that crop firmly remains in good to excellent shape, while peanut pegging is ahead of average.

The winter wheat harvest is nearly over.

Most of the state’s livestock, pasture, and forage conditions fall into the fair and good categories.
