Republican leaders do not want repeat of WOTUS rule
A group of Republican ranking House committee members is asking the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers to NOT revise the Trump administration’s Navigable Waters Protection Rule. They say it makes little sense to “unravel a final rule that has taken decades of action, litigation and legislation to settle.”
The lawmakers say they’re concerned that revising the regulation will reduce the clarity provided by the current rule and will re-impose a much broader interpretation of federal jurisdiction over the nation’s waters.
They say they do not want another overreaching Waters of the U.S. rule that had a “disastrous effect on farmers, businesses and families” and urge stakeholder input to maintain a “reasonable regulation.”
The letter sent by House Ag Committee member David Rouzer of North Carolina is co-signed by:
House Ag Committee Ranking Member Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (R-PA), House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Ranking Member Sam Graves (R-MO), Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Bruce Westerman (R-AR), and Small Business Committee Ranking Member Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO), in addition to some other Republican members.
