NCBA chief environmental counsel talks 30×30 plan
The chief environmental counsel for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association suggests President Biden’s 30×30 plan has a lot of splash but very little substance so far.
Scott Yager says groups like NCBA are trying to separate fact from fiction as they learn more about Biden’s climate agenda.
“There’s a lot of concern in the countryside about 30×30, and I think when a big splashy announcement like that comes out, obviously it puts up peoples’ radar detectors to try and figure out what’s going on. I will say the reality is we don’t really have a lot of information to understand what 30×30 means at this point.”
He tells Brownfield 30×30 is a goal, but the administration has yet to say how they plan to accomplish it.
“But we are engaged. We are having conversations with the administration about it (and) having conversations with our producers about it to first of all tell them what we know (and) what we don’t know, which there’s a whole lot. But then also to hear from them about what their concerns are.”
During his first week in office, President Biden pledged to conserve at least 30 percent of the nation’s lands and waters by 2030.
Brownfield spoke to Yager during a recent BeefMeets event hosted by the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association near Osage in north-central Iowa.
