FFA students gain advocacy experience at capitol
Missouri FFA and the Missouri Corn Association teamed up to provide Missouri FFA students with working experience within ag related legislative affairs this week. The Helping Youth Prepare for Excellence FFA Academy is designed to engage students on pressing ag topics.

“And at the end of the three days, we head over to the state capitol, and they get to present their perspective on a specific issue to legislators in the state capitol,” she said.
But Black says HYPE is not just about policy.
“It’s really about finding where these students are comfortable sharing their voice and making a difference,” Black said.” For some, that may be doing social media, for others that may be talking more to groups and for others it may mean going into the capitol.”
During the program, students heard from farmers, industry representatives, social media experts and others covering topics like engaging with opposing viewpoints, advocacy training, and brand development.
Interested FFA seniors will be able to apply to the 2022 HYPE Academy through Missouri Corn’s website.
