Senate Ag Committee member Tina Smith reacts to cattle market hearing
A Senate Ag Committee hearing on the cattle markets Wednesday is the latest example of Congress talking about issues in the industry.
But Ag Committee member Tina Smith, a Democrat from Minnesota, tells Brownfield lawmakers need to take action.
“We can’t just dither here in Washington while people are losing money every month.”
She says challenges are evident as protein supply chains emerge from the pandemic.
“There’s just been so much kind of chaos in the market, so there’s a real urgency.”
Smith says she’s going to continue to push the Department of Justice for answers as the DOJ investigation into anticompetitive behavior among meatpackers reaches the one-year mark.
