May poultry production 2% higher than a year ago

The USDA says poultry production during May 2021 was 4.115 billion pounds, 2% higher than May 2020. Most of that was chicken at 3.655 billion pounds, up 1%, with turkeys at 451.093 pounds, a gain of 6%.
The chicken slaughter was 1% higher at 748.170 million head and turkey processing was up 6% at 17.278 million head, with average live weights all steady to higher than a year ago.
The USDA says poultry stocks in cold storage at the end of May 2021 were down 12% from the end of May 2020.
Year to date, 2021 poultry production is 20.767 billion pounds, 1% slower than the 2020 pace.
