The public is invited back into the Council Chambers at Muscatine City Hall for City Council meetings starting Thursday (June 17) with certain qualifications.

Citizens interested in attending the meeting will be able to sit together as long as they leave a seat open between groups. Citizens who are fully vaccinated will not have to wear a mask but those who have not been vaccinated are encouraged to wear a mask while inside City Hall.

This is the final meeting of Fiscal Year 2020-2021 for the Muscatine City Council with a rather light agenda. The meeting will include the reading of proclamation by Mayor Diana Broderson declaring June 2021 as LGBTQ Pride Month in Muscatine.

Also on the agenda is the first reading of an ordinance updating the regulations concerning nuisance vehicles contained in Chapter 3, Title 9 of the Muscatine City Code. This is part of a continuing effort to improve City Code with the intent of making the Code easier to understand and enforce. The intent of this update is not to radically change how nuisance vehicles are regulated, but rather to improve on the current approach.

The Council will also be asked to approve a contract to demolish a structure at 1246 East 5th Street, the renewal of the City’s insurance policy, a contract for the design of the East Hill Fire Station, and a contract extension for the Landfill operator.

While public access to the Council Chambers is permitted for the first time since March 2020, those wanting to watch or participate in the meeting but not attend in person can attend through the virtual GoToMeeting portal. Information on joining the session and how to make a comment during the meeting is listed below. The session will also be broadcast live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel and on Muscatine Power & Water Cable Channel 2.

Information on the presentations and other agenda items can be found by clicking AGENDA to download the June 17, 2021, City Council agenda and/or attachments.

The best way for the public to participate is to dial in to the GoToMeeting session, mute your device, watch the session on YouTube or Cable Channel 2, and, at the appropriate time, unmute your device to ask a question or make a comment. The public can also use the “chat” feature on the GoToMeeting virtual meeting to pose a question to the Mayor, Council, or staff member.
