IL ag department “maintenance level” budget for FY22
The Director of State Legislation for Illinois Farm Bureau says the $8 billion Illinois State Budget covers the basics for the Illinois Department of Agriculture for fiscal year 2022.
“Overall, their budget was pretty much a maintenance level budget. Their budget lines were the same as last year.”
Kevin Semlow tells Brownfield there was a significant increase in funds for conservation programs supporting the Illinois Nutrient loss reduction strategy that IFB supports, and he says they are always happy to hear.
“Ag education received its annual $5-Million in appropriations.”
Semlow says their biggest concern is if the department has been allocated enough money to handle emergencies like an animal disease outbreak.
