MO planting, crop emergence speeds back up

Many Missouri farmers were able to get back into the field last week with below average rainfall across the state.      

The USDA says corn planting progressed to 96 percent, even with last year. Ninety-one percent of the crop has emerged, two percent ahead of last year.     

Soybean planting progress sped up last week reaching 65 percent complete. Forty-nine percent of the crop has emerged, eight percent ahead of last year.      

Nearly all the winter wheat crop has headed at 98 percent.   

Topsoil moisture was 87 percent adequate and 11 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was 89 percent adequate and 10 percent surplus.
