New video series aims to educate legislators on soybean production

The Illinois Soybean Association and US Representative Darin LaHood have teamed up to create an educational video series about the life of a soybean.

LaHood tells Brownfield the series starts on Ron Kindred’s family farm in Atlanta, Illinois with the planting process and will continue through harvest touching on weather impacts, herbicides, equipment, buying inputs and everything in between.

“We are at the lowest level in the history of our country in terms of members of Congress coming from rural Americas, so this soybean series is an opportunity to let people know about the process and what goes into it.”

He says the series will help educate his colleagues in congress about what goes on behind the scenes of soybean production and how things like trade, infrastructure, and crop insurance impact farmers.

“When we get to the next farm bill or a particular piece of legislation or amendment they don’t understand, I hope these videos will give my colleagues a better understanding and a reminder on these important issues.”

LaHood’s district is one of the top 10 producers of corn and soybeans in the country.
