Minnesota crops okay, haying underway

Minnesota farmers spent last week focused on first crop hay cutting, fertilizer application, and even some replanting.  USDA reporters say most planting is done, and crops have emerged.

Eighty-one percent of the corn, 81% of soybeans, 87% of spring wheat, and 92% of oats have emerged.

Hay cutting is 14% completed for the first crop, and USDA reporters say pastures are also growing with 40% in fair, 41% good, and 3% in excellent condition.

Topsoil moisture in Minnesota is 71% adequate, and 5% surplus, but 20% short.  Subsoil moisture is a bit drier, with 24% short, 68% adequate, and 2% surplus.
