Groundbreaking for peanut plant in Bootheel
The farmer-owned Delta Peanut company has expanded into Missouri. A combination of state and local tax credits and grants have contributed to the company’s plans for a facility in Kennett in southeast Missouri. Missouri Ag Director Chris Chinn says her team recently visited with farmers in the area who are planting peanuts this year.
“We’re watching that closely. We’re excited about it and hoping they have a successful year with their peanuts.”
Ground was broken for the new facility this week and when complete it will provide 50 new jobs for Kennett and the region.
Delta Peanuts currently operates a state-of-the-art shelling facility in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Its owners include farmers from the Missouri Bootheel, Arkansas and Northeast Louisiana.
