MO Governor highlighting beef during MO Beef Month
Missouri Governor Mike Parson is making rounds to promote Missouri Beef Month.
The Governor visited the St. Louis Science Center Thursday to tour the center’s GROW Gallery and call attention to beef production in the state. Parson tells Brownfield the state stepped up during the pandemic by expanding local processing opportunities and he wants that to continue.
“We know that demand’s out there,” he said. “And again, that’s another tool that farmers use to get their products to market and to be able to give everyday people exposure to Missouri beef. Which is one that that I really want to do; if we can have those local meat processing plants then hopefully, we’re going to make sure more Missourians are eating Missouri beef.”
Parson said he wants to give cattle producers every possible resource to market their beef, especially during a low in market prices.
“Last year, even in the middle of a crisis, we were trying to figure out how can we get their livestock to a market somewhere where they can take care of that,” Parson said. “Whether that’s a meat processing plant or how do we be able to help keep those markets going.”
Parson also said focus needs to be kept on stopping beef market manipulation.
