Moolenaar asks for rural disaster support legislation

Legislation has been introduced in the U.S. House to help rural communities recover from federal natural disasters.

Congressman John Moolenaar of Midland, Michigan says the Rural Disaster Support and Relief Act will increase cost-sharing assistance in communities with 50,000 or fewer residents impacted by disasters.

He introduced the bill Wednesday on the one-year anniversary of the mid-Michigan dam failures which caused more than 10,000 people to evacuate the area and cost more than $190 million in losses and $55 million in response costs and public infrastructure damage along with crop losses.
