Iowa corn and soybean farmer calls rally “bittersweet”

A crop farmer in northern Iowa calls the rally in corn and soybeans “bittersweet.”

Ben Pederson of Lake Mills tells Brownfield he’ll never complain about good prices.

“We market for profit, so as things were going up without any reasonable explanation to why they’d continue to go higher, we’d already been working into that.”

In hindsight, Pederson says he probably sold too much too soon.

“But it’s all hindsight, there’s no predicting this. You may as well get involved with trying to predict the weather, and there’s good people in weather and good people in market advisory that can be right more often than not, but it’s never 100 percent.”

Corn and soybean futures have rallied to price levels last seen in 2013, partly because so much 2020 crop has already been sold.
