MO Cattlemen’s on lack of eminent domain legislation

Missouri’s eminent domain legislation did not pass the Senate.

Missouri Cattlemen’s Association Ag Policy Chairman Jimmie Long said he’s disappointed in Missouri leaders for not bringing the bill to the floor.

“We had the votes,” he said. “It was just, kind of, stone walled and not brought on to be voted on the floor.”

The bill, sponsored by Senator Jason Bean, would have blocked private energy company Grain Belt Express from using eminent domain to acquire privately owned land.

Long tells Brownfield protection of private property rights will continue to be a priority for the organization.

We’ll bring it back and we’re going to keep fighting hard,” he said. “The Missouri Cattlemen’s [Association] will be a front leader in the fight to get it through.”

Companion legislation to Bean’s bill previously passed the state House.
