Wisconsin ag chemical survey results released

A USDA statistics expert says Wisconsin’s soybean farmers used an average of 92 pounds of fertilizer per acre last year.  Greg Bussler manages the Wisconsin data for the National Agriculture Statistics Service.  He says the number of soybean acres treated with potash was up slightly but, “What’s interesting to note on that is the rate was slightly less, so we were applying it to more acres, but a little bit less was applied per acre.”

Bussler tells Brownfield glyphosate use remains very common for weed control and is used on 99% of the state’s soybean acreage.  He says there were no major changes in the survey for insecticide use. “It stayed about the same as 2017 so roughly around 14% of soybean acres were treated in Wisconsin with insecticide.”

Bussler says the Agricultural Resource Management Survey collects data from soybean farmers and is done every two or three years depending upon available funding.
