MO crops make strides

Corn planting made progress in Missouri last week despite abnormally cool, wet conditions.  

The USDA says corn planted reached nearly 70 percent last week, nearly 20 percent ahead of last year. Forty percent of the crop has emerged, 25 percent ahead of last year. 

Soybean planting is ahead of last year with 21 percent of the crop in. Five percent of the crop has emerged.  

Rice planting reached 72 percent, 4 percent ahead of the five-year average. Sixty-two percent of the rice crop has emerged, 14 percent ahead of last year. 

More than half of the winter wheat crop has headed at 57 percent, on pace with last year. 

Topsoil moisture was 79 percent adequate and subsoil moisture was 86 percent adequate.
