Record Kiwi milk production expected

The U.S. Foreign Ag Service says New Zealand milk production is expected to be record high this year despite a declining cow herd.

The FAS office says the country is forecasting production to increase by nearly two percent to more than 22 million metric tons with a herd of 4.8 million cows, and pasture and feed supplies are in good condition.

The price forecast for farmers is also up more than 25 percent from last year as demand from China is near normal.

New Zealand is expected to increase production of whole and skim milk powders along with cheese.
