Don’t rush to wrap up planting
A product manager with Ohio-based Seed Consultants says growers shouldn’t be in a rush to finish planting.
Matt Hutcheson says there are several management decisions to help maximize yield potential.
“Pay attention to ground conditions, soil temperature, and make sure you’re not planting when it’s too wet,” he says.
He tells Brownfield monitoring planter adjustments is also crucial this time of year.
“Make sure that you’re planting the population you want to be planting and checking your seed depth and make sure you have uniform seed depth that is planting accurately,” he says. “Also, make the right adjustments and then monitoring that throughout the season because conditions change field to field.”
Hutcheson says farmers should continue to watch the forecast and avoid planting before cool and wet conditions.
