Senator expects climate discussions to be a big part of the next farm bill

The ranking member of the Senate Ag Committee anticipates climate discussions will play a large part in shaping the next farm bill. Arkansas Senator John Boozman says the President’s agenda is clear. “When you look at the administration’s agenda it’s climate, climate, climate,” he says.  “So yes, I think it will be a big component of the next farm bill.”

He tells Brownfield he’s hopeful hearings leading up to writing the next farm bill will provide some clarity about climate change and the opportunities carbon banks could provide farmers.  “We certainly need to get rid of the confusion that’s in the space right now,” he says.  “And that’s how you do it, you bring in the experts.  There are a number of pilot projects going on right now, and there are a number of farmers who have participated in this, some with success and some not with success.  Right now, there is a lot of information out there that we could be utilizing.

The current farm bill expires in 2023.
