Regan talks RVO’s, SRE’s, and climate during Iowa visit

The new administrator of EPA shed light on several pressing issues during a visit to an ethanol plant in central Iowa Tuesday.

Michael Regan toured an ethanol plant in Nevada and told reporters an announcement on Renewable Volume Obligations is coming.

“It’s a priority. And I’ll be honest with you, the last team left us in a little bit of a deficit. There were some decisions that were not made for 2019, 2020, 2021. We’re working on a strategy for how we can make up for lost time.”

Regan also touched on small refinery exemptions after the EPA rescinded three waivers granted at the end of the previous administration.

“People will criticize EPA for not going fast enough, but I can assure you this administration is going as fast as we can, utilizing the science. And by the way, we want to it as quickly as possible (too) because this industry deserves some certainty.”

Regan says he had a very optimistic conversation with a group of Iowa farmers about how technology and science will help agriculture reduce its carbon footprint.
