Herbicides in short supply
A central Iowa farmer is hearing herbicides are in short supply.
Steve Kuiper grows corn and soybeans in Marion and Mahaska Counties.
“I talked to a good friend of mine that works for BASF (and) he said availability of products like Liberty and generic Roundup (are low). With Liberty, he said it’s very difficult to get. They’re trying to manufacture it as fast as possible.”
He tells Brownfield it sounds like a shortage of freight carriers is partly to blame.
“He had a pallet of a special chemical coming from Washington state and they shipped it, but it still hasn’t arrived (as of April 27th). He was fairly frustrated with it taking (more than) two weeks to come across the country.”
Kuiper says farm chemicals aren’t only harder to come by right now, they are also becoming more and more expensive.
Kuiper is a director with the Iowa Corn Growers Association.
