Iowa farmer off to a smooth start to planting

It’s been a smooth transition from field prep to planting for central Iowa farmer Steve Kuiper.

“We’ve gotten a lot of tillage done that needed to get done, projects (and) other stuff we wanted to get done before planting. And planting has been off to a good start, we’re planting corn and soybeans both at the same time.”

Kuiper farms near Knoxville and tells Brownfield conditions are more than fit.

“My son called me a little while ago and said the ground temperature was about 58 to 62 degrees where he checked in the seed trench, and soil moisture is very good for us.”

He says weather permitting, they should be done planting by the end of the week.

Kuiper is the District 8 Director for the Iowa Corn Growers Association.
