Trade coalition calls for streamlined federal permit process

A coalition of agricultural, construction and utility trade groups wants Congress to improve the permitting process as part of its infrastructure legislation.

The group, which includes the American Farm Bureau Federation, says while they support the environmental stewardship fundamentals of the National Environmental Policy Act, it needs to be modernized for better predictability and investments into infrastructure to remain timely.

They point to differing approaches from administration to administration causing unnecessary delays and want Congressional action to improve collaboration among agencies and other levels of government during the permitting process.
