ASA’s WISHH in its 20th year

The American Soybean Association’s initiative to help underdeveloped countries use U.S. soybeans to help meet health goals is now in its 20th year.

At the virtual Commodity Classic, executive director Liz Hare of the World Initiative for Soy in Human Health, WISHH, says inroads have been made helping poultry and aquaculture industries use soybean meal in their feed. One of their biggest accomplishments, she says, is the formation of an Aquaculture Association in Cambodia, “Cambodia imports US soybean meal now and they’re projected to import significantly more even by 2030.”

Bill Wykes, an Illinois Soybean Association member, says the WISH program is extremely rewarding, “It’s always heartening for me as a farmer to see what we can do with our product. We know we’ve got a great product and WISHH is definitely getting that message across.”

The WISHH program has also made inroads in Ghana and other African countries and has helped increase the consumption of soy foods in Central America as the appetite for protein grows.
