Next generation of farmers and ag educators visit Minnesota House Agriculture Committee

The Minnesota House Agriculture Committee learned about issues affecting emerging farmers this week.

Committee chair Mike Sundin tells Brownfield FFA youth were among those who paid a visit to St. Paul.

“Very educational hearing from the young people about their needs as they enter the ag profession. And it wasn’t limited to just the hands-on farming issues, we talked about the education opportunities for some people if they’re excited about spreading their knowledge about agriculture.”

He says the transfer of farms from one generation to the next came up in conversation.

“We touched on some of the issues as far as emerging farmers (and) some of the issues they’re struggling with as far as financing and land acquisition.”

The Democrat from Esko says the ag committee also discussed biofuels and bio-incentives this week, adding the proposed E15 standard has a lot of bipartisan support.
