Iowa FFA president credits FFA for opening doors and providing tools

The president of Iowa FFA says the organization has given her the opportunity to explore different careers and build skills.

Mickayla McGill of Knoxville tells Brownfield FFA has helped her to speak comfortably in public, run meetings, and gain knowledge about agriculture.

“It’s like combining everything that you could possibly do in high school into one big organization because you’re given the ability to compete, work with others, work as a team. It’s just overall a great organization to get involved in.”

McGill, who is majoring in ag communications at Iowa State University, didn’t originally plan on joining FFA.

“But after I dropped band during the summer (of my freshman year), I was placed in an ag class. And after getting involved in agricultural education and the opportunities that my local chapter had, I found out that I love the organization and everything that it had to offer.”

The state officer team recently voted to hold the state FFA Convention in-person.  McGill says as long as the COVID situation continues to improve, the convention will be in Des Moines this April.
