Grassley says Texas power outages epitomize why Green New Deal won’t work

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley calls last week’s power outages in Texas a perfect example of why the Green New Deal won’t work.

During his weekly call with ag reporters Tuesday, the Iowa Republican says the crippling winter storm emphasized what he’s been saying about energy policy the past 20 years.

“It has to have four components (and) one is continued existence of fossil fuel until they phase out and something else phases in.”

But for that to happen, he says there must be dependable alternative energy sources.

“And snow on solar panels, or frozen windmills aren’t very satisfactory and responsible alternatives to fossil fuels.”

While Grassley blames alternative energy failures, some say the Texas privatized energy market simply did not have the capacity nor did the state heed warnings to protect generators from the impending cold.
