Food NOT COVID-19 carrier

The USDA, FDA and CDC say after a year of tracking coronavirus outbreaks there continues to be no credible evidence food and food packaging is tied to transmission of the virus.

The agencies say COVID-19 is a respiratory illness spread person to person and it’s highly unlikely food and packaging can become contaminated.

They site a recent opinion from the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Foods which confirms their findings.  The opinion says despite the billions of meals and food packages handled since the beginning of the pandemic, to date there has not been any evidence that food, food packaging or food handling is a source or important transmission route.
