USDA has emergency resources at the ready

USDA is reminding farmers and rural residents resources are available for disaster assistance and risk management for those affected by winter storms.

The agency points to the Federal Crop Insurance Program as a way for farmers to manage risk and the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program for production and tree losses for crops without insurance.

Any producer suffering losses should contact their local crop insurance agent or local Farm Service Agency within 72 hours of found damage.

The Livestock Indemnity Program and Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybee and Farm-raised Fish Program can help those respective producers.

USDA also recommends the Environmental Quality Incentives Program and emergency nutrition assistance for immediate assistance.
