Illinoisans can buy local through Illinois Product Online Marketplace

The Illinois Department of Agriculture has launched the Illinois Product Online Marketplace to fill the void from their postponed products expo.

Jackie Sambursky with the department tells Brownfield they hope to host the annual Illinois Products Expo later in the year, but for now, more than 500 local products including meats, cheeses, snacks, sauces, and wines can be purchased at illinoisproductsonline.com.

“Even though we weren’t going to be able to have an expo like we would typically see, we still wanted to be able to connect those consumers and vendors.”

She says the pandemic shined a light on how important the short supply chain is for food products.

“I think in Illinois we can definitely be proud that we do have a very strong food economy and when it was really put to the test, we prospered and were able to get food into the hands of people who needed it.”

The online portal is open through March 3rd with pickup or delivery within Sangamon County being March 6th and 7th. The first 200 customers will get a free t-shirt and anyone can enter to win a basket of Illinois products worth $250.
