Right to repair will be a key issue faced in MO in 2021

A Missouri state representative says right to repair will be a large issue faced in 2021.

Kent Haden tells Brownfield the issue stems from risk of patchy fixes to farm equipment.

“The conundrum got put to me by an equipment dealer the other day,” Haden said. “He says, ‘I sell a guy a $100,000 tractor and he wants to trade it in three years later and I buy it not knowing he’s done something to it that doesn’t match up and the engine blows,’ he said that’s a real problem.”

But he said a number of farmers have the ability to fix hardware and software problems that might occur.

“For the farmer, if I can repair it and not have to pay the shop and actually have it back in service quicker, as far as waiting, should I not be able to do that,” he said.

Haden said farmers should expect a bill covering the issue on the house floor ‘sooner rather than later.’
