Compeer CEO anticipates rapid climate shift under Biden

The CEO of farm credit institution Compeer Financial anticipates a rapid shift to climate-focused policies under President Biden.

And Rod Hebrink says he’s hopeful agriculture will be asked to voluntarily contribute in a market-based manner.

“Where agriculture has some concern is if there’s a sudden and dramatic shift in regulatory pressure or requirement and compliance (like) this is how you have to do something. That becomes much more challenging for agriculture.”

He tells Brownfield it’s too soon to say which path the Biden administration will take.

“The indications are it will be more of a voluntary and directional based ‘this is where we need to go’ for climate change and how agriculture can be a part of it.”

If that’s the way it plays out, Hebrink says agriculture will be a strong partner in addressing climate change issues.

Compeer serves clients in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
