Record demand for H-2A continues

Analysis by American Farm Bureau finds while the coronavirus pandemic initially slowed demand for foreign ag workers, 2020 set another record for H-2A visa certifications.

Demand for the guest worker program slowed through the second quarter of last year at the onset of the pandemic which Farm Bureau says is likely tied to uneasiness for the program and travel restrictions in the spring.

More than 275,000 H-2A positions were certified last year, up 6.5 percent from 2019 and the eighth year in a row to set a record.  Peak demand for workers occurred between October and December and January through March.

Farm Bureau expects demand for the program to expand again this year.
