Cleaver says USDA KC jobs not moving back to DC

A Missouri Congressman says the USDA research jobs that were moved to Kansas City during the Trump administration are not going to be moved back to Washington, DC.  Emanuel Cleaver, a Democrat, was a strong supporter of moving the bulk of the ERS and NIFA departments to Kansas City. Cleaver says he is the senior most Democrat of all the states in the region: Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Arkansas.

Cleaver says, “There’s no way that those agricultural offices will be moved against my political will. It’s just not going to happen.”

Cleaver says the rumors need to be put to rest, “I’ve heard the rumors over and over and over again. I usually don’t – this is the first time I’ve spoken about it publicly. I can tell you those offices are not going anyplace.”

Cleaver, whose district covers Kansas City, says any move back to D.C. would be too expensive.

USDA’s Economic Research Service and National Institutes of Food & Agriculture moved to Kansas City last year — and though Cleaver supported the move, he predicted the USDA might lose some top employees which it did. USDA continues to fill those positions.
